Expat coaching in German, English, Portuguese and Spanish

An assignment abroad can be a huge opportunity for development and very exciting both professionally and personally. At the same time, it is important to find your feet in a new environment and overcome previously unknown challenges. To support the expatriate specialist or manager from the outset, accompanying expatriate (expat) coaching is recommended.

Expat coaching can provide support in all three phases of an assignment abroad: in the preparation phase, during the stay abroad and after the return – as shown below.

Phases and possible topics of expat coaching

1. Preparation.

Clarification of expectations, reflection on cultural influences, conscious preparation for the start

  • Reflect on cultural influences and challenges

  • Prepare for dealing with uncertainty and tolerance of ambiguity

  • Clarify your own professional, family and friendship expectations

  • Role definition and self-presentation

  • Initial communication

2. Arrival.

Positioning, networking, work-life balance

  • Finding your feet in the new context

  • Recognising and clarifying misunderstandings

  • Dealing with (intercultural) conflicts and challenges

  • Preparing and reflecting on initial discussions with partners and stakeholders

  • Realigning your work-life balance

3. Returning.

Saying goodbye and making connections, self-marketing, maintaining your network

  • Consciously letting go of the old and integrating the new

  • Making acquired skills and knowledge visible

  • Maintaining your network at headquarters and at your foreign location

Expat coaching is suitable for both German employees who are sent abroad and international professionals who are sent to Germany. In order to respond to my clients in the best possible way, linguistically speaking, I offer expat coaching in German, English, Portuguese and Spanish.

Depending on the location, coaching can take place at the company itself or online, regardless of location.
